‘Space Beer’ Brewed in Japan

'Space beer' is being brewed by a company in Japan using barley grains that spent five months on the International Space Station.

Sapporo Holdings announced it had enough barley to produce 100 bottles of the world’s first ‘space beer’ and planned to complete its production by November. The company has no plans to produce the beer commercially.

The ‘space beer’ is just the latest science experiment on food grown in space. Barley was selected as an ideal candidate for space agriculture as it can be grown in extreme temperatures and is rich in fiber and nutrients.
