USATravelPal.com, a comprehensive travel website in progress, provides comprehensive travel information on over 1500 exciting destinations throughout the United States, including 19 in North Dakota. This great prairie state is home to Theodore Roosevelt National Park and Devil's Lake as well as the towns of Bismarck, Mandan, Fargo, Grand Forks, and Washburn.
Theodore Roosevelt National Park offers a wide variety of beautiful terrain, from desert to mountains to forest. The park is divided into north and south units some 70 miles apart. Both units are best seen at sunrise or sunset, when elk, antelope, bison, and prairie dog communities can be seen. The colorful Painted Canyon in the southern unit is an awesome sight to behold. Wind Canyon is another highlight of the southern unit. The less-visited northern unit also offers some amazing views, the most spectacular being the Oxbow Overlook.
Fargo, the largest city in the state, is another popular tourist destination. Fargo is well-known for its performing arts, most notably the Fargo Theater, a fabulous Art Deco movie theater built in 1926. Other places of interest include the Plains Art Museum and the Roger Maris Baseball Museum.
The Bismarck-Mandan metropolitan area is another fun place to visit. Bismarck, the capitol and second largest city in the state, is home to the North Dakota State Capitol, which includes the North Dakota Heritage Center, the official state history museum. Fort Abraham Lincoln State Park, seven miles from Mandan, includes the house of Lieutenant Colonel George Armstrong Custer and his wife Libby, as well as dozens of earth lodges, which were once inhabited by members of the local Mandan tribe. Visitors can enjoy guided tours of the Custer House and the eath lodges.
