A French court has sentenced Michel Fourniret, known as the “Ogre of the Ardennes,” to life in prison following his admission of guilt in the murders of seven girls and young women between the ages of 12 and 22.
Fourniret was sentenced in Charleville Meziere, the town where two of the victims were kidnapped.
Also sentenced was Fourniret’s wife, Monique Oliver, who received a life sentence for aiding her husband in the murders. According to police Fourniret and Oliver would lure the girls into their car under the belief they needed help with directions. Many of the girls would then be raped before being killed.
The murders that Fourniret admitted guilt occurred between 1987 and 2001. He was arrested in Belgium in 2003 after a 13-year-old girl he kidnapped escaped and alerted authorities.
