Three news television anchors will make history on Sept. 5 when they sit on one set for a prime-time simulcast entitled “Stand Up to Cancer.”
The commerical-free “Stand Up to Cancer” special will be broadcasted on NBC, CBS and ABC, setting a precedent for the Big Three networks as Brian Williams, Katie Couric and Charles Gibson, respectively, sit on the set together.
The "Stand Up to Cancer" special was announced Wednesday morning on the Today Show by Williams, Couric and Gibson, who also appeared live on ABC's Good Morning America and CBS's The Early Show.
It was Couric's first live appearance on Today Show, the show she co-anchored for 15 years, since taking over as the CBS Evening News anchor two years ago.
"Stand Up to Cancer", which was launched Wednesday, is a new initiative that will raise money and sponsor innovative approaches to fighting cancer. Major League Baseball was the first donor to the initiative.
"Stand Up to Cancer" is located online at StandUp2Cancer.org.
