80,000 Evacuated in China after Quake Dam Threatens Village

80,000 people were evacuated Tuesday from the potential path of floodwaters as fragile dams created by earthquake debris threaten to break.

Landslides from the massive earthquake that rocked China on May 12 have blocked area rivers creating ‘quake lakes’ that are rising rapidly.

One such ‘quake lake,’ the Tangjiashan, is posing a serious threat to thousands of survivors in Beichuan, a town already devastated by the 7.9 magnitude China earthquake.

Tent camps are being built on the hillsides above the swelling lake as thousands have been evacuated from the potential flood zone as workers attempt to drain the water.
