USS Kitty Hawk to be Decommissioned after it Leaves Japan

The USS Kitty Hawk, a U.S. Navy aircraft carrier, is set to be decommissioned after more than 50 years of service.

The USS Kitty Hawk pulled away from a port just south of Tokyo, Japan on Wednesday on its way to the Puget Sound Naval Shipyard in Bremerton, Washington to be decommissioned.

Commissioned in 1961, the Kitty Hawk is the oldest active ship in the U.S. Navy. It is the last conventionally powered aircraft carrier in the Navy.

Later this summer, the USS George Washington will be assigned to replace the Kitty Hawk at the Yokosuka port in Japan.
