Andre Dawson Inducted Into Hall of Fame
Baseball Legend Honored on Sunday
On Sunday, fifty-six year old baseball legend Andre Dawson was inducted into the National Baseball Hall of Fame. "Thank you for welcoming this rookie to your team" said Dawson during his acceptance speech. "It's an honor beyond words. I didn't play this game with this goal in mind, but I'm living proof that if you love this game, the game will love you back. I am proof that any young person who can hear my voice right now can be standing here as I am." Born in 1954, Dawson made his MLB debut in 1976 playing for the Montreal Expos. Throughout his 21-year career, he also played for the Chicago Cubs (1987-1992), the Boston Red Sox (1993-1994), and the Florida Marlins (1995-1996). An 8-time National League All-Star by the time of his retirement, Dawson was no stranger to success in the world of professional baseball. He was both a National League Rookie of the Year and a National League MVP during his career. Not to mention that he earned 4 Silver Slugger Awards and 8 Gold Glove Awards. Besides thanking his fans and expressing his gratitude for winning the prestigious honor of being inducted into the Hall, Dawson also took some time during his speech to address the modern concern of steroid use. "There's nothing wrong with the game of baseball," said Dawson. "Baseball will, from time to time like anything else in life, fall victim to the mistakes that people make. It's not pleasant and it's not right... Do not be lured to the dark side. It's a stain on the game, a stain gradually being removed." Hopefully Dawson is right about that.
