Dr. Rajiv Sahay, Director of EDLab Presents Bio-Scan 400TM: Mapping of Indoor Fungal Population at PAAA Aerobiology 2008 Conference

Amherst, MA -- Aerobiology 2008, the 20th annual meeting of the Pan American Aerobiology Association (PAAA) will be held at the University of Massachusetts in Amherst MA June 16-19, 2008. This meeting provides an opportunity for worldwide leaders in the scientific society to collaborate on all aspects of aerobiological interest. There will be many of the usual features of PAAA meetings such as a welcome reception, oral and poster sessions, conference workshop, the unknown workshop, PAAA business meeting, and the Spore Camp.

Dr Rajiv Sahay, Laboratory Director for Environmental Diagnostics Laboratory (EDLab)/Pure Air Control Services a national leading environmental laboratory will be presenting at the PAAA on Bio-Scan 400TM: Mapping of Indoor Fungal Population on June 18, 2008 at UMass.

Bio-Scan technology provides a quick, at a glance view on surface pollutants of indoor environments.  The Bio-Scan 400 is featured in many IAQ Screen Check products, a inexpensive, user friendly do-it-yourself test kits available on line at www.IndoorAirTest.com or at many distributors e.g.; Grainger, Ferguson’s, Carrier, Victors, Yandle Witherspoon among many others.

The IAQ Screen Check kits identify the following indoor pollutants: mold, allergens, bacteria, fiberglass, formaldehyde, organic vapors (chemicals), ozone, dust mite, toxic mold, legionella, MRSA among others.

Other PAAA presentations at Aerobiology 2008 include:

·        Linking the Abundance and Diversity of Microorganisms to Atmospheric Dynamics: Can Microorganisms Influence the Weather? Bowers, R, Fierer, N

·        Influence of Spring Weather on Pollen Season and Pollen Production in the city of Sherbrooke, Quebec. Levac E, Sandercombe S, Stretch V.

·        A Decreasing Gradient of Airborne Fungal Spore Concentration from El Yunque Rainforest towards San Juan, Puerto Rico. Cervantes G, Rivera Mariani F, Bolanos B

·        Microbial Enumeration and Phylogenetic Analysis of Bioaerosol Samples using Molecular Methods Osman S

·        Accumulation of Airborne Microbial Diversity Within Spacecraft Assembly Facilities and its Implication on NASA Life Detection Missions Venkateswaran, K

·        Single-Particle Fluorescence Spectrometer (SPFS) for Detecting and Characterizing Atmospheric Biological Aerosols.  Pan Y-L, Huang H, Chang R, Hill S, Pinnick R.

About PAAA:

The Pan American Aerobiology Association (PAAA) is an assemblage of individuals with diverse scientific backgrounds and expertise who have a common interest in the sources, dispersal, and deposition of airborne biological particles. The organization was officially constituted in June 1989 during the Second Canadian (and first Pan-American) Symposium on Aerobiology. The PAAA is an associated organization of the International Association of Aerobiology (IAA) and acts as the representative of the IAA in the Americas
