Altman created “It’s Academic” in 1961. The show pitted groups of high school students against each other and tested them on different subjects.
“She had the idea that it would be really nice if academic achievements had the same accolades as the heroes on the football field. If you got a right answer it was like you got a touchdown,” says her daughter Nancy Altman.
Among the competitors who have previously appeared on the show is Senator Hillary Clinton and Senator Charles Schumer; astronaut Timothy Creamer, and Pulitzer Prize winner Michael Chabon.
