On the winning side of an AL Central Series vs. the Indians, the White Sox continue to prove why they are the team of only a few years ago. Although pitching was not the key to this series, the White sox pitchers continued to prove they can shut down hitters, and in this case, the tough Cleveland lineup.
Wednesday, it was Gavin Floyd turns to prove, which started with a tough twenty-three pitch first inning. He then was able to retire ten straight, including seven strikeouts, on the way to very solid outing. The ability for these young pitchers on the bottom end of the rotation is key for Chisox. Even just holding a team to three or four runs is more then enough for this solid hitting team. Perhaps the hardest hitting three, four, and five hitters in the big leagues; Konerko, Thome, and Dye consistently continue to bring their A hitting game.
In addition to these power hitters, another hitter is also stirring the big league for these Sox. Outfielder Carlos Quentin, perhaps just in a really good mood these past couple months, is leading the way in round chippers with fourteen. With all this power in just four hitters, the teams main contact hitters of Swisher and Cabrera just make it such a scary thought. At the start of the season, no one believed this team would be atop the AL central, let alone second, and now almost half way through the season, the team is playing better then ever before.
