Closing in on the end to the ballot, the NL has indeed surprised a lot of heads, in the all-star voting. Perhaps not surprising is why the players are getting voted in, but perhaps more of who the players are that are getting voted in. Even the first glance at the polls, two rookies are atop their starting respected positions.
Even more surprising, their both from the same team; catcher Geovany Soto, and right fielder Kosuke Fukudome. Both performing great seasons, the two are in fact the leading vote getters by big margin. This would be the first time in National League history, which two rookies from the same team, will be starting at the summer classic.
Also noticing upon the top vote getters from both respected leagues, the NL may have finally surpassed the AL in best gathered talent. The theory behind this is the fact that the not so great teams have been atop the AL this season. The fact that the Rays are on top, proves that the upper echelon of AL ball clubs have fallen this past year. When looking at the standing in the NL, the upper crust still fares pretty even, with exception to the New York Mets. These given facts, will show up during the Summer Classic I believe, giving the NL that edge they have ever longed for the last couple years.
