A strong 6.1 earthquake rocked Iceland on Thursday with the epicenter hitting just 30 miles from the capital city of Reykjavik.
The temblor struck in the popular tourist town of Selfoss where heavy damage had been reported to buildings and homes yet there were no numbers on injuries. Residents and tourists rushed into the streets as the earth began to shake around 1546 GMT.
A road between Reykjavik and Selfoss has been closed due to damage and authorities have advised residents to remain outside of their homes due to the possibility of aftershocks.
