Jennifer Butler Murray, the wife of comedian/actor Bill Murray, has filed for divorce against him after nearly 11 years of marriage.
Butler Murray claims that her husband abused her and is addicted to both marijuana and alcohol. She filed divorce papers on May 12 in Charleston County, South Carolina.
Butler Murray owns a home on Sullivans Island, S.C., where she lives with the couple's four children.
The complaint, which does not mention marijuana and alcoholism, does say that she was a victim to frequent abandonment by Murray. It alleges that Murray would often leave his house without telling his wife and says he "travels overseas where he engages in public and private altercations and sexual liaisons."
The couple signed a prenuptial agreement before they married in 1997. As part of the agreement, both waived their right to alimony or support if the marriage broke up. However, Murray agreed to pay $7 million to Butler Murray within 60 days of a final divorce decree.
