101-Carat Diamond Sells at Christie’s Auction in Hong Kong

A 101-carat, near-flawless diamond sold Wednesday at a Christie’s International sale in Hong Kong.

The stone, which is the size of a quail’s egg, is the biggest colorless diamond ever sold in Asia and one of only three colorless diamonds over 100 carats ever sold.

Set in a tiara, the diamond was estimated to bring in $8 million but sold for $6.2 million, the most expensive single piece of jewelry sold in Asia.

As the highlight of Christie’s jewelry sale, the diamond has the third-highest clarity ranking and the third-best ranking on a scale used to measure colorlessness.
