The National Indian Foundation said on of Brazil’s last uncontacted Indian tribes has been spotted in the Amazon jungle near the Peruvian border. The tribe was seen traveling along the Envira River, said the government foundation Funai.
According to Funai, six huts, a group of “strong and healthy warriors, and a planted area was photographed. “These pictures are further evidence that uncontacted tribes really do exist,” said the director of Survival International Stephen Corry.
There is believed to be more than 100 uncontacted tribes worldwide. Most of the tribes have settled in Brazil and Peru.
Survival International said the tribes in Peru are in danger of being driven over the boarder to Brazil because of illegal logging. Survival says there may be conflict with Indians already living in Brazil.
