Rev. Michael Pfleger Apologizes for Mocking Clinton in Obama's Old Church

Rev. Michael Pfleger apologized Thursday for a fiery sermon in which he mocked Sen. Hillary Clinton, saying she felt "entitled" because of her race.

Pfleger made a guest appearance Sunday at Trinity United Church of Christ in which he gave a sermon imitating Clinton saying controversial comments.

Pfleger mocked Clinton's tear-jerking episode after the New Hampshire primary in January. He said that she wept because of her pedigree and race.

"I really believe that she just always thought, 'This is mine! I'm Bill's wife, I'm white, and this is mine! I just gotta get up and step into the plate,'" said Pfleger as he imitated Clinton. "And then out of nowhere came, 'Hey, I'm Barack Obama,' and she said, 'Oh, damn! Where did you come from? I'm white! I'm entitled! There's a black man stealing my show!'"

"She wasn't the only one crying," Pfleger continued. "there was a whole lot of white people crying!"

Pfleger is a pastor at St. Sabina Roman Catholic Church, a predominantly African-American congregation on Chicago's southwest side. He is a close friend of Rev. Jeremiah Wright, the former pastor of Trinity United and former associate of Barack Obama.

Pfleger has given money to Obama's campaigns and Obama as a state legislator directed at least $225,000 towards social programs at St. Sabina's.

However, Obama condemned Pfleger's remarks like he did Wright's.

"As I have traveled this country, I've been impressed not by what divides us, but by all that that unites us," Obama said in a statement Thursday.

"That is why I am deeply disappointed in Father Pfleger's divisive, backward-looking rhetoric, which doesn't reflect the country I see or the desire of people across America to come together in common cause," continued Obama.

Pfleger offered his own apology prior to Obama's. "I regret the words I chose on Sunday," he said in a statement. "These words are inconsistent with Sen. Obama's life and message, and I am deeply sorry if they offended Sen. Clinton or anyone else who saw them."
