Vatican Issues Warning Over Women Priests

A general decree issued by the Vatican announced that anyone attempting to ordain a woman as a priest would be excommunicated along with the woman seeking ordination.

Signed by Cardinal William Levada in Rome, the decree stated the excommunications would take place with immediate effect.

The announcement does not come as a surprise to women priests already ordained within the Catholic church.

A woman priest ordained two years ago who now works for the group Roman Catholic Womenpriests indicated she would continue her volunteer work celebrating mass at a local nursing home even if she is excommunicated.
