That number is significantly lower than the 4,000 children orphaned in China just days after the May 12 earthquake.
Chinese officials had vowed to use every measure necessary to reunite the children with their parents or other family members, and reported there was still hope of finding the families of the remaining children.
Calls continued to pour in from all around the world with offers to adopt the children.
