Universal Studios Fire Destroys at least One Building at Historic Film Lot

A massive fire at Universal Studios in Los Angeles, California consumed a large portion of the 230-acre lot and is threatening to destroy irreplaceable items from film past.

The fire broke out early Sunday morning and led to more than 100 firefighters arriving to battle the blaze. The firefighters are trying to minimize the damage as the flames have already consumed one building.

Helicopters have been dropping water on the lot as they scramble to keep the flames from reaching brush that surrounds the lot.

At least three blocks of movie facades have been burned and a vault containing master films was said to be in jeopardy.

One firefighter was said to be injured.

The cause of the fire has not been determined.
