Retiring Teacher Dies Moments after Final Class Lets Out

After 36 years of teaching Sharon Smith was set to retire after her final class on Friday but moments after the final bell rang for summer vacation she suffered a heart attack and died on the way to the hospital.

Smith had taught fourth grade at Molino Park Elementary School in Molino, Florida, the same school she had been working at since 1972.

Shortly after dismissing her final class Smith complained of shortness of breath and an ambulance was called. She apparently had a heart attack at the school and was revived but had a second while in the ambulance and passed away while en route to the hospital.

Smith’s husband of 24 years and he son passed away last year.
