Haynesworth Fails Conditioning Test

NFL Defensive Back Doesn't Make the Cut

Albert Haynesworth, who has been playing as a defensive tackle for the Washington Redskins since February 2009, has failed a conditioning test. Asked to run the equivalent of twelve 50-yard sprints, Haynesworth completed the first part of the test but then walked through the second part. According to a team official's report to ESPN.com, Haynesworth will not be allowed to practice with the rest of the team until he can pass the test. On Wednesday, Haynesworth met with Redskins head coach Mike Shanahan and defensive coordinator Jim Haslett and insisted that he was, from a physical standpoint, good to go. Shanahan seemed optimistic on Wednesday, saying, "I'm expecting him to be in great shape. And if he's not in great shape, then we're going to do what we need to do to get him in shape." Unfortunately, Haynesworth did not pass the required test, and now it is up to Shanahan to decide when the twenty-nine year old defensive great will be able to return to practice with the rest of the team. When asked specifically by ESPN if Haynesworth will play for the team in 2010, Shanahan said, "We'll see. All I can do is tell you we're going to give him every opportunity to show us what we can do." (Sources: ESPN.com, Foxsports.com)
