Train Collides with School Bus in France, at least Five Children Dead

A train traveling between the towns of Evian and Thonon-les-Bains in the French Alps collided with a school bus on Monday, killing at least five children and injuring dozens.

The school bus, carrying 50 children and six adults, had been traveling from the town of Margencel and Yvoir when the train struck the vehicle near the town of Allinges.

The cause of the accident was yet to be determined but France’s rail operator SNCF noted that the crossing where the accident occurred had been in working condition.

French President Nicolas Sarkozy addressed the tragedy stating, “All of us are thinking of the children, the adults, the victims. We can only hope there will be as few victims as possible."
