Another Drug Kingpin Taken Down

A Puerto Rican drug lord is captured as international officials continue to crack down.

It’s the second huge international drug bust in just over a month. First Jamaica’s drug kingpin was taken down and now Jose David Figueroa Agosto, an alleged drug kingpin and prison escapee was caught in San Juan, Puerto Rico following a high-speed chase.

The 46-year-old Figueroa Agosto was Puerto Rico and the Dominican Republic’s most wanted fugitive. He was arrested after trying to escape from officers conducting surveillance, DEA special Agent Waldo Santiago told CNN.

The famed drug lord was previously in prison on murder charges before escaping in 1999. CNN reports that Figueroa Agosto fled to the Dominican Republic where he continued his drug trafficking ways. He was rearrested only to escape yet again.  In addition to charges in Puerto Rico and the Dominican Republic, Figueroa Agosto also faces charges in the U.S. that include passport fraud and unlawful flight to avoid prosecution.
