Northwest Airlines to Plead Guilty, Pay $38 Million Fine for Price Fixing

Northwest Airlines has agreed to plead guilty and pay a $38 million fine for its part in conspiring to fix air-cargo rates from July 2004 to February 2006.

As part of the plea deal Northwest, which was taken over by Delta Air Lines in October 2008, will continue to co-operate in the ongoing US Department of Justice investigation into violations of anti-trust laws.

The Department of Justice has been investigating a number of airlines in relation to their involvement in price fixing and Northwest becomes the 16th to plead guilty to charges.
