Booze Ban on London Transit System Causes Uproar; Thousands Protested Over the Weekend

Tens of thousands protested in London Saturday night as a booze ban was set to go into effect at midnight on the city’s underground train network.

London police were busy as revelers sought to take advantage of the last night that drinking alcohol was to be allowed on the city’s public transit system.

Newly elected London Mayor Boris Johnson introduced the booze ban which allows anyone caught drinking or even carrying alcohol to be removed from any of the city’s trains or buses.

Johnson vowed during his election campaign to tackle the city’s growing reputation for reckless binge drinking and curb public rowdiness. The booze ban, he said, would help create a better traveling environment for all passengers on London’s Tube.
