Senator Barack Obama (D-IL) officially clinched the Democratic presidential nomination Tuesday, according to the Associated Press.
According to AP, Obama has secured the 2,118 delegate votes to secure the nominated based on a recent tally of the delegate count.
Obama becomes the first African-American candidate ever to lead his party into a fall campaign for the White House.
Obama outlasted Sen. Hillary Clinton (D-NY) in America's most historic presidential race as an African-American man and a white woman both battled to secure the party's nomination, both firsts in American history.
The historical race brought out a record turnout in voters, adding live and zest into the American political process.
Obama, 46, will face Sen. John McCain (R-AZ) in the fall campaign to become the 44th president after just one term in the Senate.
Clinton has yet to concede that Obama has officially won the nomination, but it is expected that she will soon.
