Rev. Michael Pfleger Removed as Pastor of St. Sabina Catholic Church

Reverend Michael Pfleger was removed Tuesday as the pastor of St. Sabina's Roman Catholic Church following controversial comments he made about Sen. Hillary Clinton.

The report was first published by Fox News.

Pfleger, a longtime social activist and outspoken community leader in Chicago, mocked Clinton during a fiery sermon at Trinity United Church of Christ, the former church of Sen. Barack Obama, on May 25.

Pfleger said Clinton mocked Clinton's tear-jerking episode after the New Hampshire primary in January, saying she felt "entitled" because of her race. He also said that she wept because of her pedigree and race.

"I really believe that she just always thought, 'This is mine! I'm Bill's wife, I'm white, and this is mine! I just gotta get up and step into the plate,'" said Pfleger as he imitated Clinton. "And then out of nowhere came, 'Hey, I'm Barack Obama,' and she said, 'Oh, damn! Where did you come from? I'm white! I'm entitled! There's a black man stealing my show!'"

"She wasn't the only one crying," Pfleger continued. "there was a whole lot of white people crying!"

Pfleger apologized about the comments as soon as it made national news.  "I regret the words I chose on Sunday," he said in a statement. "These words are inconsistent with Sen. Obama's life and message, and I am deeply sorry if they offended Sen. Clinton or anyone else who saw them."

In 1981, Pfleger became the pastor at St. Sabina Roman Catholic Church, a predominantly African-American congregation on Chicago's southwest side. At age 31, Pfleger he became the youngest pastor in the Chicago archdiocese.

Pfleger is a close friend of Rev. Jeremiah Wright, the former pastor of Trinity United and former associate of Barack Obama.
