Visitors should not miss the Shepherd of the Hills Outdoor Theatre, which features a flock of sheep, over 40 horses, a burning log cabin, and about 80 actors.
Jefferson City, the capitol of Missouri, is another exciting place to visit. Located on the banks of the Missouri River in the middle of the state, Jefferson City is filled with beautiful monuments and historic buildings. Overlooking the Missouri River, the majestic Missouri State Capitol houses the Missouri State Museum, containing many interesting historical artifacts. Tourists should also not pass up the Jefferson Landing State Historic Site, which contains three historic buildings: the Lohman Building, the Union Hotel, and the Maus House.
St. Joseph is historically important in that the Pony Express was started here in 1860. The old Pony Express stables, where the first mail line was run, is now a museum with a wide range of exhibits. The museum also offers guided tours. St. Joseph also has several other museums as well as numerous city parks and plenty of outdoor recreation.
