Eric Holder, Caroline Kennedy Added to Obama VP Search Committee

Sen. Barack Obama added Caroline Kennedy and Eric Holder to his vice presidential search committee on Wednesday, one day after clinching the Democratic nomination.

Kennedy, the daughter of former President John F. Kennedy, and Holder, the former Deputy Attorney General under President Bill Clinton, will join former Fannie Mae CEO Jim Johnson.

Johnson did the same thing in 2004 for then-Democratic presidential nominee John Kerry and in 1988 for Walter Mondale.

Kennedy formally endorsed Obama late January in a New York Times op-ed piece titled, "A President Like My Father." Her uncle, Senator Edward "Ted" Kennedy, has been a staunch Obama supporter since early in the campaign.

Holder, a partner at Covington & Burling LLP in Washington, served as Acting Attorney General under President George W. Bush until John Ashcroft was sworn in.

Obama's decision to include Holder, who graces the cover of The American Lawyer, on the three-person search team for VP causes speculation of Holder becoming the frontrunner for Attorney General.

If selected, Holder will become the first African-American to be Attorney General, as he was the first to become Deputy Attorney General.
