Slovenia was forced to shut down its only nuclear power plant on Wednesday after the reactor began leaking coolant at its Krsko plant.
The plant had a pressurized water reactor manufactured in the U.S. and when the primary circuit began to leak safety measures were taken to quickly shut down the site. According to Slovenia’s nuclear safety chief Andrej Stritar the leak was under control and in a statement he said, ‘"The plant is in stable condition. There is no off-site impact and there is no need for off-site protective measures.”
In compliance with the Ecurie early warning system for nuclear emergencies the European Commission notified all 27 EU members about the leak.
