German Billionaire Joachim Herz Killed in Boating Accident on Georgia Lake

The 66-year-old was visiting friends on Lake Rabun in northeast Georgia. Herz went for a swim around noon Saturday and was hit by an 18-foot ski boat.

Authorities said there was no evidence the boater was speeding on the lake. No charges had been filed against the 43-year old boater, who tested negative for alcohol. The accident remains under investigation

Herz, who owned a home in metro Atlanta, was ranked number 368 in a Forbes listing of world billionaires. He inherited his fortune from his father, coffee baron Max Herz.

Herz had an estimated net worth of $3 billion.
