Sharon Stone Not Invited to Shanghai Film Festival

Organizers for the Shanghai International Film Festival announced Wednesday that actress Sharon Stone would not be welcome at this year’s event.

The 50-year-old actress provoked outrage in China after she questioned whether the devastating earthquake in central Sichuan province was the result of bad “karma” for the country’s mistreatment of Tibetans.

Stone’s comments came during a red-carpet interview in May at the Cannes Film Festival. Immediately after the remarks were aired, French fashion house Christian Dior dropped the “Basic Instinct” star from its Chinese ads.

The Hollywood actress issued the following statement, “Due to my inappropriate words and acts during the interview, I feel deeply sorry and sad about hurting Chinese people. I am willing to take part in the relief work of China’s earthquake, and wholly devote myself to helping affected Chinese people.”
