Sen. Hillary Clinton Expected to Concede Saturday

Senator Hillary Clinton (D-NY) is expected to concede from the Democratic presidential race on Saturday, according to reports Thursday.

Sen. Barack Obama (D-IL) won the Democratic presidential candidacy on Wednesday, becoming the first African-American to lead a national party into a presidential election.

Clinton sent a personal e-mail out to her supporters Thursday, thanking them for their support and urging them to help Sen. Barack Obama win the White House bid after eight years of Republican control.

"I have said throughout the campaign that I would strongly support Senator Obama if he were the Democratic Party's nominee, and I intend to deliver on that promise," said Clinton via e-mail.

"This has been a long and hard-fought campaign, but as I have always said, my differences with Senator Obama are small compared to the differences we have with Senator McCain and the Republicans," continued Clinton.

"I will be speaking on Saturday about how together we can rally the party behind Senator Obama. The stakes are too high and the task before us too important to do otherwise," said Clinton.

New York legislators are following Clinton's lead this week. The New York Democratic congressional members plan to endorse Obama's candidacy Thursday on the steps of the U.S. Capitol.

On Friday, Democratic leaders in New York, including Gov. David A. Paterson, state legislators and city council members, plan to endorse Obama at a 1 p.m. news conference at New York's City Hall.

Several of Clinton's supporters are urging for Clinton to become Obama's vice presidential candidate. Longtime Clinton supporter Bob Johnson, the founder of Black Entertainment Television (BET), wrote a letter to the Congressional Black Caucus, insisting that they urge Obama to select Clinton as his VP.

Clinton was very close to becoming the first female candidate to lead a national party into presidential election. To view her e-mail in its entirety, go to http://i.cdn.turner.com/cnn/2008/images/06/05/clinton.letter.pdf
