The Triborough Bridge in New York City will be renamed the Robert F. Kennedy Bridge, according to reports on Thursday.
The Triborough Bridge, which connects Queens, Manhattan and the Bronx, leads to John F. Kennedy Airport in Queens.
New York State Assembly gave final legislative approval to rename the bridge on Thursday. Gov. David Paterson plans to sign the legislature in April after it meets Senate approval.
The legislature was passed on the 40th anniversary of Kennedy's assassination. In 1968, Kennedy was shot by Sirhan Sirhan while on his presidential campaign. Kennedy was addressing the crowd at the Ambassador Hotel in Los Angeles after winning the California primary.
Kennedy, affectionately known as RFK, was the United States Attorney General from 1961 to 1964 and a U.S. Senator from New York from 1965 until 1968.
