The Euro 2008 soccer tournament begins Saturday, pitting 16 of Europe's best national teams in a battle to prove who is the best.
The Euro 2008, also known as the 2008 UEFA European Football Championship, will take place in Austria and Switzerland from June 7-29.
The winner of Euro 2008 will represent UEFA at the 2009 FIFA Confederations Cup in South Africa, unless the winner is Italy, in which case the runner-up will be entered, as Italy is already entered as the winner of the 2006 FIFA World Cup.
Portugal, Switzerland, Czech Republic and Turkey comprise Group A, while Germany, Austria, Poland and Croatia make up Group B.
Group C consists of France, Italy, Romania and Holland. Spain, Russia, Greece and Sweden make up Group D.
Greece won the Euro 2004 tournament, defeating favorites Portugal.
Several of the world's best players will be playing in the Euro 2008, including Portugal's Cristiano Ronaldo, Ricardo Carvalho and Deco; France's Theirry Henry and Franck Ribery; Germany's Michael Ballack and Lukas Podolski; Spain's David Villa and Sergio Ramos; Italy's Luca Toni and Gianluigi Buffon; and Greece's Vasilis Torosidis.
FIFA ranks many of the teams in their top 20 world ranking: Italy (No. 3), Spain (No. 4), Germany (No. 5), The Czech Republic (No. 6), France (No. 7), Greece (No. 8), The Netherlands (No. 10), Portugal (No. 11), Romania (No. 12), Croatia (No. 15) and Turkey (No. 20)
Saturday's play will begin with Switzerland takes on the Czech Republic at noon ET, followed by Portgual versus Turkey at 2:45pm ET.
