UNC Point Guard Ty Lawson Charged with Driving After Consuming Alcohol

North Carolina point guard Ty Lawson was arrested early Friday morning after the rising junior failed a field sobriety test administered by police.

Lawson had been driving through downtown Chapel Hill when an officer pulled him over for playing his music too loud. The officer detected a strong smell of alcohol coming from Lawson’s car and conducted the field sobriety test which led to the arrest.

The 20-year-old Lawson was also charged with violating the city’s noise ordinance as well as driving with a suspended or revoked license. He is now scheduled to appear in court July 8.

While Lawson declared for the 2008 NBA Draft he has not hired an agent meaning he could still return to UNC.
