Giant WWII-era Bomb Defused in London

British army personnel defused a massive bomb Friday after the World War II relic was discovered in east London.

Uncovered during construction for the 2012 Olympic Games, the 2,200 bomb began ticking and forced service on two nearby subway lines to be suspended.

The bomb is the largest to be discovered in London in three decades, and is one of many unexploded bombs that fell on the city during World War II.

Since 1955, there have been no recorded incidents of unexploded World War II bombs being detonated in Britain.
