Mexico Plans to Track Sharks Following Fatal Attacks

Mexico plans to track sharks off the Pacific coast by attaching transmitters scientists can use to monitor their behavior.

Two surfers were killed and a third wounded in separate incidents during April and May near the resort towns of Ixtapa and Zihuatanejo.

Marine authorities have not indicated how many sharks will be tagged in their efforts to determine why the predators are getting to close to Mexico’s coast.

Shark experts say they plan to catch the sharks with specially baited fishing lines, tag the animals’ dorsal fin, and release them so that scientists can monitor their behavior via satellite.
