Colombia, Ecuador to Restore Diplomatic Relations

Colombia and Ecuador have agreed to restore diplomatic relations that were severed in March.

According to a statement by The Carter Center in Atlanta, Presidents Rafael Correa Delgado of Ecuador and Alvaro Uribe Velez of Colombia have agreed to begin immediate steps to reestablish diplomatic relations between the two countries.

The founder of The Carter Center and Nobel Peace Prize winner, former U.S. President Jimmy Carter, consulted each president about the possibility of renewing diplomatic relations between the two countries immediately and without preconditions, initially at the level of Charge d’Affaires.

Statements from both presidents confirmed their willingness to do so through their respective foreign ministries.
