Hillary Clinton Suspends Campaign, Throws Support Behind Barack Obama

Hillary Clinton entered the Democratic presidential race as the clear-cut favorite but on Saturday that fell by the wayside as the senator from New York suspended her campaign and threw her support behind Illinois senator Barack Obama.

Clinton expressed gratitude to her supporters noting she was “grateful to everyone who poured [their] hearts into this campaign” but encouraged those supporters to now rally with Obama supporters to give the Democratic Party unity as the general election takes shape.

Speaking before many of her supporters at the National Building Museum in Washington Clinton called the Democratic Party “a family and it's time to restore the ties that bind us together.”

Obama recently collected enough delegates to become the Democratic nominee and will now face Republican nominee John McCain in the November general election.
