Italian director Dino Risi, best known for the films “The Easy Life,” “Poor Girl, Pretty Girl,” and “Scent of a Woman” has died. Risi was 91.
Risi was nominated for a pair of Oscars for the 1974 Profumo di Donna (Scent of a Woman) and while he didn’t capture the award 20 years later Al Pacino nabbed an Academy for Best Actor in the remake.
Known as a pioneer of Italian comedy, Risi was also a man gave opportunities as Sophia Loren and Vittorio Gassman were early beneficiaries of Risi’s willingness to take a chance on new talent.
In 2002 Risi was presented with the Golden Lion lifetime achievement award at the Venice Film Festival.
