The Yanks are starting to play the way that the baseball world is accustomed to see them playing and could be on their way to playing good consistent baseball for a long stretch. Johnny Damon who has been booed and criticized like as much as any Yankee player had the game of his life and they needed every bit of it in a 12-11 slugfest victory at Yankee Stadium.
Damon went 6-6 including the game winning double in the 9th inning when the game was tied at 11 all. Starter Andy Pettitte had a rough day allowing 10 runs in all and just didn't seem to a feel for any of his pitches and the young Royal hitters made him pay.
The Royals looked as if they were on their way to winning the slugfest in the 9th when David DeJesus pulled the Royals in the lead by hitting a homer off Mariano Rivera. The Yankees were having none of it and counter back as they did throughout the whole game in front of 53,611 screaming fans.
With the win the Yankees, are now 31-31 and now can focus their attention on getting back at the top of the tough AL East. Everyone team in the AL East is .500 or better and with the surprised team D-Rays leading the race, this year’s race for the AL East crown could be the best ever for the division.
