The O's continue to play much better than the baseball experts expected them to play according to pre-season predictions and continue to make the AL East feel even tougher with their 9-4 victory in Toronto to pull their record to 31-30 on the season. All the teams in the division are .500 or better and still have plenty of games left against each other.
The O's jumped all over Jay's starter AJ Burnett who continues to puzzle the Jays with his inconsistent pitching performances. With a live arm at times he can look as dominant as any starter in baseball and other times like the average pitcher his overall career record indicated he is allowing 8 runs in just 4 in a third innings of work.
O's starter Guthrie on the other hand gave the team a good performance allowing a run in seven solid innings of work. Guthrie has not had the success that he enjoyed last season as a starter and if he can get back to what he was doing last season, he could provide a big boost to the young O's rotation.
The Orioles are known for getting off to good starts and fading when the dog days of summer hit the schedule. If this year's team can get through the tough stretch and summer heat, they could find themselves in September playing for something other than last place.
