The Cubs who have been flying as high as any team this year in baseball, got a taste of their own medicine in LA as the Dodgers come back to beat them and their ace Carlos Zambrano by a final score of 7-3 at Dodger Stadium. The game was a pitcher’s duel for the early part of the game between Dodgers starter Derek Lowe and Cubs Zambrano, then the Dodgers hitters finally broke through.
Derek Lowe sinker was working early on in the game and he knew he would be in a tough one with Zambrano on the mound who had been 7-1 entering the game Saturday. His confidence got shaken when he allowed a homer to Soriano at the top of the 6th. The Dodgers have not scored many runs for Lowe in his starts and it was shaping up to be a typical strong outing by him without any run support.
The offense turned it around and scored two runs in the bottom of the 6th inning from Russell Martin and added five more runs in the bottom of the 7th inning. The Dodgers beat the Cubs for the second consecutive game and continue to try to keep ground with the hot D'backs.
For the Dodgers to get anywhere, they have to prove that they can score runs and hit and today's game was a good showing against one of the best in the league. Dodger fans can only hope that tomorrow the offense will carry it over for a sweep of the Cubs.
