Texas Governors Mansion Gutted by Fire, Arson Suspected

Texas state officials say the Governors mansion in Austin has been damaged by a fire on Sunday. Gov. Rick Perry and his wife moved out of the 150-yer-old house last fall as it underwent a $10 million renovation.

The fire began after 2 a.m. Sunday morning. The Governor’s spokesman Robert Black said the damage to the mansion “is extraordinary, boarding on catastrophic.”

More then 100 firefighters were called to the scene. Arson is suspected as Fire Marshal Paul Maldonado said there is “some evidence that indicates that we so have an intentionally set fire.”

“So we believe that we may be looking at a criminal act here,” he added. “We’re going to come get the person that’s responsible for causing this damage.”

Security cameras that were set up around the mansion are being reviewed.
