Widespread violence broke out in Karachi, Pakistan
following the shooting death of Syed Raza Haider, a leader of the MQM party.
MQM supports President Asif Ali Zardari’s Pakistan People’s Party. Haider was
shot and killed Monday while attending the funeral of a relative.
Rafiq Gul, Karachi's deputy superintendent of police,
said the killing sparked violence in the city. Mobs set fire to vehicles and
buildings. At least 43 people were killed and 72 others injured after gunfire
broke out.
