Mosque on Ground Zero: to be a center of interfaith peace or riot?

Opponents of building a mosque on Ground Zero fail to resist any further since the land has been denied landmark status.

The plan to build a 13-story mosque on Ground Zero near the original site of the Twin Towers has been causing a verbal riot for some time now. Those opposing had hoped that the land on which the mosque is being built would pass as a "landmark" by the Landmarks Preservation Commission. Sarah Palin's Twitter posts made headlines a few days ago regarding her view that a mosque on Ground Zero is unwanted and disrespectful. Several other Republicans hold this view. What many fail to realize is that the building, which was previously a coat factory, is being used as a mosque even now by local Muslims. Therefore, the building of a "new" mosque would in reality would just be "renovating" the original mosque. However, the Commission did not rule the building to be a landmark, so attempts to resist the mosque have now failed.
