2010 Clearwater Super Boat National Championship Expected to Get Bigger, Faster, Louder

The return of a profitable event for the second year in a row is coming back to Clearwater “new and improved”, to make it bigger, faster and louder than the year before thanks to a new partnership.

When the Clearwater Super Boat National Championships return to Clearwater for the second year in a row, it is expected to return bigger, faster, and louder than the year before thanks to the addition of another key organization to the event.

John Carbonell and Super Boat International have teamed up with Offshore Super Series for this year’s event.  What does this mean for Super Boat fans? More boats, more speed, more “thunder”, and more entertainment.

October is traditionally a slow season for tourism, despite the area’s mild and pleasant weather. But when added to the decline in tourism from false perceptions caused by the oil spill, it makes the Super Boat races especially important to Clearwater’s number one industry.  The plan of adding OSS to the event is to help attract even more people to Clearwater.

“We are grateful for OSS joining John Carbonell and SBI for this National Championship Festival, “said Frank Chivas, the race co-chairman and Founder of BayStar Restaurant Group. “This means more super boats than last year which will add even more to the outstanding experience our visitors enjoyed last year”.

Added Brian Aungst, the race co-chairman and Former Mayor or Clearwater, “SBI getting OSS to join forces for the National Championship Festival in Clearwater proves that after only one year Clearwater has become known as ‘the premiere race site’ for offshore power boat racing”.

The sporting event, which is the longest running offshore power boat racing in the United States, again hopes to bring in tourists and pump up a local economy during a crucial time for the Gulf Coast of Florida.

Last year, Super Boat picked up the dry season by attracting over 60,000 people to the event without spending a penny of tax payer money. This year, the races are expected to do the same, and will hopefully surpass last year.

“It’s a great time of year to support the tourism industry,” says Aungst.

The race will take please at Downtown Clearwater’s Coachman Park and Clearwater Beach October 1st – 3rd.

About Super Boat:

When Super Boat International (SBI) founder and 30-year veteran, John Carbonell, wanted to produce Clearwater’s 2nd Annual Super Boat National Championship Festival two local area businessmen made it happen: Restaurateur Frank Chivas and Former Mayor of Clearwater Brian Aungst Sr.

Carbonell has been producing the World Championship Races in Key West every year for 3 decades as well as the races in Sarasota held every 4th of July.  Now Clearwater, the next “new great location” will have something Key West doesn’t have…the absence of cruise ships obstructing the race sight lines.  “It’s a great time of year to support the tourism industry,” says Aungst. “[SBI] needed another spot and Clearwater Beach is one of the prettiest beaches in the world.”

Clearwater’s 2nd Annual Super Boat National Championship Festival will be produced by Super Boat International and presented by Brighthouse Networks.  To see the full list of sponsors, partners and sponsor hotels, visit www.clearwatersuperboat.com
