Singer Wyclef Jean is set to announce his intentions to
run for president of Haiti on Thursday’s Larry King Live. Jean recently told
Time magazine that Haiti’s devastating 7.0. magnitude earthquake in January is
what prompted him to seek the presidency.
"If not for the earthquake, I probably would have
waited another 10 years before doing this. The quake drove home to me that
Haiti can't wait another 10 years for us to bring it into the 21st century,”
said Jean, who is helping earthquake victims through his Yele Haiti Foundation.
"If I can't take five years out to serve my country
as President, then everything I've been singing about, like equal rights,
doesn't mean anything,” added the former Fugees star.
Haiti will vote to replace President Rene Preval on
November 28. Preval’s term ends in February.
