According to multiple sources, NBA veteran and 4-time NBA Finals champion Shaquille O'Neal has decided to play for the Boston Celtics. The 38-year-old 3-time NBA Finals MVP reportedly told the Celtics of his intentions on Wednesday morning. According to the sources, Shaq will be playing for $1.4 million per year, the veteran's minimum. Both the Celtics and the Atlanta Hawks had been actively pursuing the 15-time NBA All-Star, but Shaq decided on Boston because he believes they have a better chance of winning the Finals. According to a report from Comcast SportsNet-New England, Shaq and the Celtics are already close to finalizing the exact terms of a deal, with an official news conference expected to take place sometime next week. Even though Shaq is past his prime (he made his NBA debut in 1992), he is still a formidable NBA competitor and might prove to be a very valuable resource this season for the Celtics, who will suffer the temporary absence of Kendrick Perkins because of a bad knee injury that the center sustained during the end of the 2010 NBA Playoffs. Who knows? Shaq might even win his 5th Finals title with the Celtics. After all, even though the new Miami Heat lineup is expected to make big waves, the Celitcs forced a 7-game series this last Finals against Kobe Bryant and the Los Angeles Lakers. (Sources: ESPN.com)
